About the Scholarship – NSW 2025
Pathways to Jobs in Live Music: The Weasle Eicke Scholarship is a national initiative of CrewCare, proudly launching in New South Wales in 2025 with the support of Sound NSW, Creative Australia, and a network of Australia’s leading production suppliers and education providers.
This program offers a fast-tracked, industry-connected entry point for:
-
Tertiary students studying live production, sound, or event tech
-
Early-career and unskilled workers in live music from both metro and regional areas
Aimed at creating an inclusive and accessible workforce, the scholarship is designed to support underrepresented voices across the industry — including women, First Nations people, culturally diverse applicants, and regional participants — while addressing the national shortage of skilled crew.
The Program Structure
1. Training (10 Days)
Held during mid-semester breaks, the training component includes:
-
WHS and site safety induction
-
Anti-bullying and harassment awareness
-
Mental health and resilience for live events
-
Hands-on technical training across audio, lighting, staging, video, and production.
All successful applicants will receive:
-
$100 stipend per training day (10 days total)
-
$100/night accommodation support for regional participants who must travel
Trainees will rotate through NSW-based production supplier sites and venues, then select two preferred companies for extended, targeted training.
2. Work Experience & Mentorship (10 Flexible Days)
Following training, participants will complete 10 paid days of work experience with production partners over a six-month window — scheduled flexibly around study and work commitments. Each participant is paired with an industry mentor to help shape their growth, expand their network, and guide their career.
All work placements are paid at the appropriate award rates.
Our industry partners have committed to opening real pathways into jobs, giving participants access to a wide range of events, venues, and backstage environments.
In Honour of Weasle
The scholarship is named in memory of Wellesley "Weasle" Eicke, a much-loved crew leader and founder of Gig Power, Australia’s longest serving crewing company. Known for his tireless work ethic and mentorship, Weasle helped shape thousands of careers in live events, always leading from the front and teaching others with generosity and humour.
This program honours his legacy by lifting the next generation into fulfilling roles behind the scenes — just as he did.

2. Work Experience and Mentoring
This part of the program will provide flexible work placement to ensure participants have access to the broadest range of activities suited to their skill sets. All participants will have six months to complete the ten days mentorship. These ten days do not have to be fulfilled concurrently. This allows students to time the experience around their studies, and gives flexibility for businesses to find the most advantageous work experiences
The program has partnered with a number of industry leaders, companies and production suppliers to give students the best possible experiences and contacts, thus maximising their pathway to job opportunities.
Whilst undertaking work experience, trainees will receive relevent award rates.
